(ECNS) -- A commemorative exhibition celebrating the 70th birthday of late Hong Kong singer and actor Leslie Cheung opened Tuesday at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

Running from Sept. 9 to May 10, the exhibition features more than 300 rare items and archival footage spanning Cheung's career in film and music. Highlights include 11 sets of classic stage costumes, such as his iconic golden coat and purple striped trousers, as well as personal furniture and a portrait by local artist Yuen Tai-yung. Many pieces are on public display for the first time.

At the opening ceremony, Raistlin Lau Chun, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Hong Kong SAR, described Cheung as an enduring symbol of Hong Kong pop culture, praising his innovative spirit and pursuit of artistic excellence.

The museum will host free screenings of six classic films starred by Cheung during the exhibition.
